- Vice Chairperson
- Marketing Committee
- HR & Health & Safety Committee
Describe your roles and duties:
I have volunteered with Slieve Gullion Credit union for 9 years, firstly on committees and moving forward to the Director position for the past 6 years. I am in my second year in the Vice Chair role.
Holding a position as Director we have the responsibility of governance of the general direction and management of the credit union. Within our duties we ensure that corrective policies and procedures and our system are meeting legal and regulatory requirements. It’s a position that we all take with honour as we are elected by the members of the credit union to oversee the functions on their behalf.
As well as sitting on the Board of Directors, I also sit on the HR & Health & Safety Committee. This is a role that I enjoy as I am a Qualified CIPD Awarded HR professional, and I enjoy assisting the management and Board members with any queries that should arise. I also sit on the marketing committee, this role is very exciting as you get to learn what the community would like to see the credit union deliver and try to hit that target.
I complete CPD training each year relating to GDPR, Anti-Money Laundering and Ethics. I have attended the Irish League of Credit Union’s (ILCU) AGM for four consecutive years. I feel it is important for your credit union to be represented and ensure we get to vote for motions/rule amendments put forward by various credit unions to help the movement continue to progress and prosper long into the future. By attending ILCU functions and seminars we are able to network with other credit unions and gain knowledge of the movement.
In 2019, Aoibeann Walsh, Emma Murphy and myself were guests at the ILCU Youth & Marketing conference where we took centre stage to encourage younger members to volunteer with the credit union movement, as Slieve Gullion has on average one of the youngest Boards across Ireland.
Hobbies and Interests:
I am Dundalk FC Fan and travel Ireland to the matches with my brothers (C'mon da town), I enjoy walking, hiking, socialising, and travelling.
Most interesting fact:
I have a master's degree in Creative Multimedia but took a career change to work in Human Resources and I am now a HR Director for one of Ireland’s leading recycling companies.
